Stage 3 Sigtuna GoKartPrix 25-Apr-2015 OS-WE-RING

It was windy weather in Upplands Väsby on the race day. 11 gokart drivers were battling their ways to get more points out of this race. Three of them were rookies, but nobody was going to give them any advantage on the track. In qualification session it was Igor Scavlev who took the most of his gokart and scored 1 point for pole position. Within the same second came his rival Anatoly Hramov. Man-on-fire from the last race Karlis Ligeris together with Raitis Stankevics were going to start semi-final from the 2nd row.

A really bad semi-final start experienced Igor once he was dropped to 4th by the first corner. All his rivals were in the front, and Karlis was even the 1st for a couple of laps. But battlling with Anatoly was too tough for him and he spun letting Raitis, Igor and even Oskars Karlsons through. Being 4th at that moment Oskars couldn’t imagine himself falling back to 9th in just a 1,5 laps. But that is exactly what happened. He spun himself as well. Far in the front Igor was able to overtake Raitis for the 2nd, but Anatoly was already too far to reach. Raitis then caught a bad luck and let first Karlis (in a discussable overtaking moment) and in another two laps Rihards Sparinskis through. Our Lithuanian friend Karolis Ramoska gained two positions and was happy to start final race 7th right in front of Raitis’ brother – Artis Stankevics. Two other newcomers, Lauris Skadins and Iveta Sluka, closed the starting grid.

Yet another bad start for Igor together with driving on the grass let Karlis go through. But it was Raitis that he was battling the long 4 laps until they cought Iveta for overlapping. The only lady in the race saw only Raitis and moved to let him pass. That made Igor to drive on the grass one more time during one race. Once he was back he couldn’t catch Raitis anymore who found his good pace and finished 3rd. Igor came 4th. Constant drive of Rihards (-1 on the start) and Karolis (+1 on the start) brought them 5th and 6th places respectively. But they had a good fight between each other as well. Roman lost three positions during the race, but then was able to get back two of them thanks to a contact that happened between Oskars and Artis and a spin for both of them after that. Roman just stayed away from them and then just took his “gift”. Lauris was also constant all the time and crossed the finish line 10th. Iveta became the first contender for the Ladies Cup 2015 with 1 point! But it was the best race for Karlis, who took the lead right away at the first turn and never gave it back, no matter how hard Anatoly tried. He learned his lesson in the semi-final and never made any mistake again. Second consecutive victory together with the best lap time in the race made Karlis move to top of the championship leader board. 2nd place for Anatoly let him get closer to Igor.

Well, that was yet another proof that outdoor races are much more fun to drive then indoors. Warm weather season has only just started. See you soon on the other open tracks!
