Rörken Motorstadion Podium - GoKart PRIX Stage 5

GoKart PRIX had it’s own Euro 2016 in Uppsala. 16 drivers represented Sweden, Spain, Portugal, Latvia, Poland, Lithuania and The Netherlands. Rörken Ring offered 13 new gokarts that, comparing to last year’s race, were faster and had less performance difference between each other. There were 2 groups of 8 drivers racing on the track. Joel Pettersson, brother of last year’s winner Thomas, wanted to take another gold medal into the family. But this year competitors were much stronger. And we could tell it already only by the fact that the best lap time of the whole race was shown in qualification in group 1 on colder tyres! As a result it was a Championship rookie Alex Johnson who won the pole.

During semi finals racers were getting ready for the final session by trying different trajectories and overtaking maneuvers. There were several battles in pairs, when two drivers were testing each others’ abilities and nerves. But in the end it was last lap’s start/finish straight that counted the result. Emil Östman overtook Martin Brzezinka and got himself P1 on the finish line. And in group 2 there was no equal for Alex Johnson.

There was much more action on the track in finals. In Final B 4 racers were fighting each other for a chance to race in Final A. Viktor Gars, Slawomir Wachowski, Joao Franco and Igor Scavlev – all of them could be the winner. Unfortunately, Organizers didn’t have any video footage to check this battle carefully, especially since there was a spin on the track. However, it was Slawomir who “cought his lucky dog” and moved as 9th driver in Final A. As it usually happens, Final A was more dramatic. Championship leader Cezary Blawat couldn’t find his pace and lost in total 5 positions during the race. In the middle of the pack there was also a 4-kart battle between Joel Pettersson, Karlis Ligeris, Andreas Oldeskog and Alex Stedt. Lap after lap they were switching positions and battling on the edge. It was very entertaining battle to watch up until the moment when 2 of the drivers went a bit more aggressive. Both of them got warnings, since GoKart PRIX championship is about FAIR RACING and respecting each other. In the front of that pack there was battle for P2 between Emil Östman and Martin Brzezinka. And it was Martin who won that local fight. Way in the front of everybody there was a lonely driver who made no mistakes and was getting more advantage of clear track with every lap. And the name of this leader was Alex Johnson. He won and became the 4th driver who could take a win in his debut race.
