It’s a good time for a short recap of our previous race at Caroli. It is very cool that we had many new faces in our championship that day! But the top 3 after Qualification consisted of our well known Berke, Igor and Mattias. The both Semi-Finals didn’t bring any position changes with Igor and Berke first to the finish line in their heats.
The Finals were more interesting. In Final B Ralfs snatched one position from Daniel directly at the start who right away wanted to “return a favor” by pressing Ralfs for the half of the race. The Latvian, however, not only saved his spot, but also overtook Mårten for the 2nd not long before the finish. On the last lap Daniel passed Mårten as well, but a few corners later unexpectedly Mårten got his 3rd back. In the front of the pack for the whole time was another GoKart PRIX rookie – Giorgio. He won the heat and moved to Final A.
In the main race there was no big fight at the start, except that Giorgio went too wide and hit the tire barrier. A pole sitter Berke took a clean start and kept his lead by the first turn. A 2nd place Igor just couldn’t keep up with him like a 3rd place Mattias couldn’t keep up with Igor. A 4th place Martin, however, had a better pace than Mattias and was searching for the opportunity to overtake our reigning champion. And found it! His next target was Igor that he reached by the middle of the race. Igor stopped trying to get to Berke and started to defend his place. Lap by lap he was taking the alternative lines just to keep Martin behind him. The same thing Michael was doing not to let Jani through. Even Giorgio reached them. Igor was slowing Martin down and this led Mattias to fight back for the podium spot. So, we had two 3-way battles at once. This was intense. The results were the following: Berke was all alone in the lead and won the race. Igor kept his 2nd position and Martin came 3rd. But there was a change behind them – Giorgio overtook Jani for the 6th but there was already no time to fight with Michael for the 5th.
After this race Berke got back his lead in the season and Igor climbed up to P3 followed by Michael on P4. We remind you that only 7 best results of the year will be counted into the championship.
